I have a D5b 47X, the clutch and transmission brake need adjustment. The forward/reverse lever is hard to engage either direction and selecting gears is also difficult. Does any one know the correct procedure for these adjustments.

Thanks in advance Connic

Years ago I had about the same problem with a D7-17A Had all the problems your talking about. Adjusting the cluth fixed everything. Dont remember how to adjust it but at the time I went to Cat and they walked me through it. Might try that with the clutch first. Sorry I can't help ya.

Ian, if the lever snaps over center good around 30 lb pull you just need to adjust the clutch brake on the back of the clutch. Just adjust the shoe to go closer to the drum when you have the lever forward all the way. It should be able to stop the drive shaft from turning. If the clutch needs adjusting you need to take the cover off and unlock the spider, turn it towards the clutch plate to tighten and lock it up again.

In reply to your help, I have adjusted both the clutch and the transmission brake. But the real problem was with the forward/reverse shift lever which had a seized pivot bearing on the lever. This just proves you should look for the easy fix first.
