Loader bucket cutting edges

We have a 54" bucket for our bobcat and it is getting pretty worn out on the leading edge. I would like to weld in a new cutting edge and am wondering what works the best for this job and where to get a new edge. Thanks for any help!

The best thing to use for a 'home made' cutting edge is a piece of T1 plate. It's not cheap but it will last longer than a piece of plain old mild steel. Your biggest problem will be that you'll either have to torch cut a bevel on the leading edge, or have someone machine a bevel on it, otherwise all you'll have is a square edged 'cutting' edge that won't cut anything.

That said, do some checking around, you should be able to find factory replacement cutting edges without alot of problems. You might have to get one a bit too long, etc and cut to fit, but something close ought to br available.

Our steel yard handles new cutting edge blades for buckets and blades, if not check your county road construction place, they should have good used ones for little or nothing.

That's who I was going to suggest. I bought some backhoe teeth from a Bobcat way cheaper then anywhere else I could find. Way way cheaper then from Kubota too which is what it was for.

Check your town or county road department, 90% of the time when they change out the cutter blades on the dozers & motorgraders they just put on new blades without bothering to flip the old blade over and using the good cutting edge on the other side. This is how I get blades & slobber bits for my home-made roadgrader. Most places will let you have them for FREE or very little cost.
