if the tractor uses magneto ignition its positive ground. if its points ignition its negative ground. my 49 VAC has neg. ground w/ points ign.

hope this helps.

Paul,

I've always heard that all Racine built Case tractors have negative ground systems and that all Rock Island built Case tractors have positive ground electrical systems.

My SC and DC are negative ground. The VACs are positive ground. What model are you wondering about??

I'm asking for a friend, I just called him and all he knows is that it is a 54 model 300.

Rip all of that old electical crud of the 300 and convert it to 12 volt negative ground (standard). I did my 46 SC with a new alternator and lights, including flasher and rear work light for under $100.00. If you use the tractor at night or in traffic you will never regret it. You can get the instructions to do it from the link on the YT site that sells electronic ignition conversions. I have not installed one of those as I can still gap a set of points!
