Case 351 steering wheel

As posted by my brother I bought a 351 yesterday. That tractor is rare enough I will need some advice going forward. Question of the day is about the steering wheel. My wheel all three spikes are the same. Is this the correct wheel or should it have that triangular center spoke like the 300s? And how do u get it of? The center nut is missing already so do you just bang on it? Doesn?t have any holes for a gear puller.

You can find steering wheels for your tractor on eBay, or on the YT parts page. To take the steering wheel off pull up on the steering wheel on the side where the key is located and give the shaft a quick rap with a brass hammer. Put the nut on the staft, flush with the steering shaft, before you use the hammer. I've also had good luck removeing a steering wheel be jerking up on the steering wheel with both hands. I did this on a tractor with no seat and ended up rolling off the back of the tractor onto the ground. Still holding onto the steering wheel of course.

Thanks for removal info. Yes the wheels are on the inter web
but sometimes the listing is for things that work and not
necessarily what is correct. Found that out with VAC gas?s
caps. Lots of them listed but only one allows you to lift the
hood with cap on. Is the same with 351. Gas cap on there is
domed and the hood won?t close. Yet that is the cap shown by
most parts places. I think I need same cap as vac as it is flat
on top.

Thanks. I didn?t know the third spoke was a plastic one. Mine
probably had it. Doesn?t now and the rest of the Bakelite is
falling off as well

IIRC 1958 and prior steering wheel pic 1 has a slightly tapered hub with a woodruff key to mate with the steering shaft. 1959 steering wheel pic 2 has a spline hub (no key) to mate with a splined shaft. To swap steering wheel types you also have to change the mating shaft section. I don't know which steering wheel the 351 has but built in 1957 I suspect it had Pic 1 with the woodruff key hub/shaft.

Spline or key, put a nut on the shaft, then instead of using a hammer use an air chisel with a center point. Keep upward pressure on the wheel while buzzing away. Never had it fail, usually one or two seconds does it. Smear some anti-sieze compound on before reassembling, makes it easier next time.

Joe (Wa),
Is the first picture a 300 or a 350? I see it has power steering. That's one thing I wish my 300RN had. It doesn't steer too bad until I drive my 530 awhile, then get on the 300. The power steering on the 530 really has me spoiled.

First pic is 1956 model 310. Has PS cylinder mounted in front of the axle. I changed from the belt driven pump to the gear drive pump on the right front of the engine.

I did a little research to see what it would cost me to put power steering on my 300. I think I'll just tough it out a little longer.

There is a cap for your tractor it has two tabs ontop just bend them flat. They may only have an unvented cap for these tractors but that is a work around type problem.
