checking vac trans fluid

The manual says trans fluid on vac should be to the full mark. It doesn't say if that is with the plug resting on the top of the transmission case or completely screwed in. Does anyone know the right way?

I don't think a 1/2" one way or other will make much diff.

Proper check is with the plug screwed in place as it goes down the field.
