870 hydraulics

We have an 870 8'speed that we bought not running and nothing was known about the tractor. We have it running but the pto spins constanly and cannot seem to engage or disengage. Also the power steering works and the brakes will work after pumping in them several times but it doesn't seem that the remotes work as when you move the lever then engine doesn't labor also the 3 point hitch doesn't raise. Where do I start to diagnose there issues? Is it a cable, a relief valve or what could be my troubles?

You should bleed the brakes, a 1/4 inch socket on a 6 "extension reaching in over the rear axle should let you in to bleed it, run the engine and open the bleeders and let them open till bubble free oil flows, then shut them off. None of this applies if a standard brake tractor which has to bled in a normal manner with someone pumping the brakes.

The pump should be flo tested by isolating it out of the tractor system with a flow meter direct to the sump, this should be done by a trained technician as the pump can be destroyed in seconds if done improperly, the pump is the heart of the system and must be verified ok before starting to throw parts at it with no knowledge, You could at least put a gage into a hydraulic coupler at the rear of the tractor to see if there is any pressure. There are things independently that can cause the hitch not to work even with the main hydraulics in good shape so dont worry about the hitch till the dual remote valve is up to pressure with good flow before digging into that.
