Case VA Hydraulic Troubles

Somewhere in my Eagle Hitch assembly on my Case VA, there is a leak that is causing oil to leak all of the time that the pump is running. So , I had the bright idea to bypass the depth control valve and install a single hydraulic control valve from a VAI to run the Eagle Hitch until I can rebuild my spare Eagle Hitch assembly. Plumbing was pretty straightforward, and lifts and raises the Eagle hitch just fine. I have some questions for anyone who might know something about the single hydraulic valve, though:

1) Should this valve have positions (raise, hold, and lower), or does the valve just raise or lower?

2) When the valve is in the raise position, should the lever come back to an intermediate position based on pressure buildup in the valve? When I had the valve apart, the ball for the pressure relief valve didn't fall out. Could this be part of the problem?

3) Should I just abandon this old single control valve and install a good quality dual action hydraulic valve? Would power beyond allow me to run a remote cylinder and the Eagle Hitch after I get it repaired? What type of valve would anyone recommend?

I appreciate any help. Thank you.

Thanks

Leaks at the control unit are usually from a flooded rock shaft housing caused by defective piston seal and a blocked vent/leak-off to the torque tube. I have seen very minor leaks on the release and control valve stems and the lead gasket between the two parts of the control unit. These are usually persistent weep type leaks.

A SA valve should work ok if you're inclined to go that way.

Thanks, Joe. The sliding valve was assembled 180 degrees off. Once I rotated it, I could feel the notches in the valve. Still have to work on getting it to automatically return to neutral.

Do you have any idea where the lead gasket at the bottom of the valve could be found? It had blown out the side, so I had to replace it with some Karropak material for now. CaseIH parts shows it to be NLA.

Don't know about the lead gasket. I don't think the gasket material is all that critical other than oil resistant.
