4 cylinder puller

Just as the subject line states who is the go to person to build a 4 cylinder case pulling engine? I want to build a gas engine and would like to use a 400/700/830 sheet metal. I would like to be able to run 6 to 12 mph up to 7500 lbs. I have an 830 block and propane heads. How much bore and stroke do I need? Who has built one of these and had it reliable? Thanks for the insight

the answers to these questions depend on the rules and competition where you pull. Some are low rpm rules and those require long stroke and large bore. Other areas pull high rpm and those you can't get to large or long or they won't hold together. And lp heads may not be your best bet, good flow will frequently out pull high compression heads.

Thanks for the reply. Typically we pull 20 percent over stock rpm. I would liked to hear some combinations that people have put together both using available parts and all,the way up to all custom parts. I've heard that 7 inch stroke will fit with 5.125 bore but nobody has told me what parts they used for that combination.

I never did anything that big. I did put 504 sleeves and pistons in a 930 with 70 series heads on a diesel. So that can be done easy. I know back when I was pulling there was an outfit in Wisconsin that claimed to make dc's to 504 cubes. I saw a couple pull and they were impressive. I have no idea if they are still around.

Mel from this forum has wrung about every ounce of possible energy from a DC Case engine. He might also be able to advise you on newer engines. Don

I thank Don for the recommendation but If I were working on one of those series engines I would defer to Gary Baker also, a friend who is not afraid to talk ideas and builds for pullers on the national circuit, He has developed the Case 4 cylinder engine into a real competitor and knows the block, piston head and rod combinations. He has tooling that I could only dream of. That's my advice
