970 married to 1070

Hi...has anyone taken a 970 standard trans model and cab and rearend from the flywheel back and married it to a 1070 motor. I ran into a clutch problem...the clutch is 14 inch on the 970 and the pressure plate is smaller. The 1070 uses a 15 inch...
Will the 15 inch clutch and pressure plate fit into the bell housing of the 970? The 970 flywheel bolts to the 1070 motor...has anyone heard of any problems with this other than the bolt holes not being far apart enough to mount the 1070 pressure plate.
Any suggestions...??

The 1070 engine and flywheel will fit fine. The only thing you have to look at is the center of the flywheels, they have to be the same as there was 2 different style torque limiters used in those models. Rod.

The last time the clutch wore out on my 970 the flywheel was not repairable. I could not find a flywheel for a 970. I did install a 1070 clutch at that time. Only difference is the pedal pushes harder. 15" clutch fits in the 970.

Not sure what your talking about by limiter...this is a standard transmission model not the powershift. I took the powershift flywheel off the 1070 and was going to use the 970 flywheel...had it even refaced. But when I got the parts ...clutch and pressure plate I realized I had a problem.
I'm making one tractor out of two dead ones. One burnt...one seized. The siezed one was partly stripped and I was led to believe it was a 1070 and never checked the serial number.
So I guess it's buy a used flywheel....I wonder what that's gonna set me back.
The burnt tractor ...a 1070 for sure...has a good powershift I'm putting in my other running 1070.

I could ...but I purchased a 15 inch clutch
and pressure plate by mistake and have them
and no original clutch and pressure plate
..both totaled ...from the the 970 I
bought.
With the 1070 engine I'm not going to be
able to fully utilize that motor as it will
probably smoke the clutch a tad easier
under full to near full torque.

I wouldn't worry about hurting the 14" clutch unless you drive with your foot on the pedal. I know of several turbo 970(125+ hp) 8 speeds that didn't have short lived clutches.

I have a 970 8 speed/1070 PS hybrid project waiting in the back yard, I'm just going to rebuild the 14" for it.

Thats right. Clutch kit was the same price for both at that time. The PTO hub spline in the center of the flywheel was almost bone in the 970 flywheel.
