I decided to static time the ignition on my 300RN yesterday. I usually do this after I bring a tractor home, but hadn't done this one yet. Looked up the particulars in my copy of the I&T shop manual and was surprised at what I found. The pointer on the flywheel has to be set 7/32" before DC. I found this to be a bit odd. Why didn't they make a mark on the flywheel for this spot? Anyway, the next thing I found was that the timing window on the bellhousing was towards the bottom. I had to lay on the floor in order to get a good sighting on the flywheel marks and the pointer. Has anyone else on this forum timed a 300RN and thought the way things were set up an oddity?
