I am sort of new to case and I already asked you about high top speeds in VAI. My new question is are all the gears fast or just a high 4th?

The steering gearbox on this tractor is made by Ross, The same company that made steering boxes for the Willys Jeep as well as some other vehicles. The gearbox has its own oil reservoir separate from the torque tube. There is no opening under the gearbox into the torque tube. Torque tube Part#VT720. According to the Case parts book this torque tube was only used on tractors with serial# 6014292 thru 6014314, But my tractor # is 6040071 so who knows. Yes this tractor does seem fast in all gears but I have not had a lot of seat time in a regular VAC so it may just be me.

My VAIWII has the steering box missing, it must be one like yours can I get a pic when you have time please? mine mounts to the side of the torque tube and not on top it has a factory Case cast cover in place of the normal steering box

Let's see...flambeau or yellow...either is a bright pretty color. Never see many yellow ones, you have done a great job! Now paint another flambeau so we can compare.

Those sold through a Case Construction dealer were painted Federal Yellow like Dennis's is I am sure he said it had it when he was cleaning it up, there used to be several around here painted the same way and were factory paint

Tom Here are some pictures of the gearbox on my tractor. It mounts on the top of the torque tube like the case built gearboxes but is not lubed by the oil in the torque tube, it is self contained. The torque tube was cast without the hole in the top I think Nick@ky has one just like it that I took to him as left over parts when I was working on mine.I think the VAIW was even different from mine.

Yes from all indications this tractor was Federal Yellow from the factory. The old tin was all yellow and there was yellow paint under brackets and other parts when I took them off to clean them up. This tractor was not an original Eagle hitch tractor. I added the hitch that was from a parts VAI that I had found. I also found an original Case horn that I added to the tractor.

I have a 66 440 that the whole thing was painted Federal Yellow from the factory.
My son has a 47 VAI like that one that would look good that color. That is a beauty in the pic.

(quoted from post at 14:44:40 06/02/18) I also found an original Case horn that I added to the tractor.
I've always thought a horn on an old tractor to be just silly. If that motor won't scare the cows out of your road, a locomotive air horn won't do it either!

Some States like Nebraska used to and maybe still do require all tractors to have horns,, Case had the option since the 40's for one, many industrial units had them
