VAC let me down

So I go out to get the VAC out of the shed so I can hook up the hay rake. So I set a battery in and hit the starter button with the hood up so I can make sure the connection are good. It spins over just fine. So I let the hood down flip the ignition switch on and hit the starter button and nothing. Lift the hood and check connection and there good. Use a heavy wire to the starter side of the button to the battery and it fires right up. So now before I can use it I have to replace the starter button. What a pain now I have to pull the battery back out just to take out the old one and install a new one. Plus I notice the excite wire has come undone so hook it up and shut it off and it keep running so maybe bad diode also

It?s all part of owning a tractor or any other mechanical piece of equipment. At least the tractor starts and runs good and you know where the problem is. It?s not a big deal.

Hey, Old, when I first got my tractor a bit over a year ago you had to stand beside it with a screwdriver and short across the solenoid to start it. Nothing like standing one foot in front of a tire almost as tall as you are and hoping that you checked to make sure it's in neutral enough times before sparking it up!

Yep Old, I have to replace the starter switch in my "930" too, as like Bruce mention I had to jump it at the starter, which is probably not the safest thing to do, but it rolled over and started

Rich, I despise the battery being behind the gas tank in front of the dash.
So I did this.

I'd love to do that but this one has the Stockton 3 point hitch so no way I could put the battery in that area the Stockton hitch would not let it work. I have 2 1949 VAC tractors with the Stockton hitch on them. Have one parts VAC that had what I would call an upside down 3 point since the center link par was the lift area. I also have a VAI that I need to work on the loader and add a hyd pump. I want to try and drive the hyd pump off the crank shaft since the engine mounted pump does not work well if at all

I see another reason I could not mount a battery that way. On my VAC the steering rod would be in the way of mounting a battery there. So on both my VACs one could not mount a battery that way.
