vac question on rock shaft

I noticed the arms on my rock shaft on my VAC eagle hitch are not level. The right one (as you sit on the tractor) is about 2" higher than the left
at the farthest point of the arm. I would have guessed they should be level. Should they be? Or am I worrying about nothing.

Depends on what your using it for. Most implements would require the arms to be level. Sometimes you might shorten one side when using a plow to get the plow level. Dick

If you are referring to the lift arms, the rockshaft/lift arm mating splines are indexed at 90 deg intervals. Doesn't seem likely that the lift arms could be mounted on the rockshaft wrong unless one side or the other lacked the indexing. Following from VA service manual, old pic may not be very legible.

I wondered about mine (on a 611B) too, until I had to take it apart to put a new seal in it. I couldn't get the left drag arm any more than 6" off the ground. But when I had it apart, I couldn't see any way to put it together wrong. Finally came to the conclusion that the lift link came off another tractor and was too long, I shortened it about 2-1/2" and all is rosy. After lifting that assembly off the tractor and replacing it, I think I can guarantee that nothing is bent in there. That rockshaft is 3 or 4 inches diameter, solid, and I think it's hardened too. Can't imagine twisting it. I'm sure you can see that the lift arms are pretty beefy too, and I'd think it would be obvious if one was bent.

It isn't a big deal. Has me puzzled more than anyting. I am making it work with the crank on one side and using the different holes on the right. I wonder if one arm was replaced with one from a slightly different tractor. It would seem that they should be level. It would be pretty hard for it to be twisted or mis aligned from the info you fine gentlemen have given me.

Has someone put a right side arm on the left? The way they are indexed I think if that has happened it would cause the issue you have. The noticeable difference other that the indexing is the right side has the partial flange that the hydraulic control lever quadrant mounts on. The left side would not. Lee

the arms arent the same so I don't think they put wrong one on one side. left side has ushaped flange for the crank. Other side does not.

nteresting. My 611B has the adjusting crank on the right. As well as the flange for the control levers. But I'd think they'd still be level if they were simply switched; still possible that one came from a different tractor.
