530 injector?

After sitting for winter the tired old 530 diesel doesn't seem to be getting fuel to the injectors. I have fuel down to pump. Fuel seems to be coming through the overflow tubing back to tank too. Just doesn't seem to be any getting to injectors. What do I start checking? She'll take right off on starting fluid but no sign of any diesel getting to cylinders.

First check that the injection pump is turning when cranking. If so, pump most likely has metering valve, delivery valve, and/or rotor plungers stuck. Been seeing more pumps in for repair like that lately. If pump doesn't turn, hydraulic head is seized and drive shaft broken, hope that's not what you find..

Bret,Dieseltech rounded all the bases, but to easily check if the pump is indeed turning remove the little cover held on pump with 2 screws and see if the rotor is indeed turning when engine is cranked.

if you take the rectangular top cover off the pump you will see the metering valve tab in there, when you pull your shutdown cable it pushes it shut. but when you push the cable in it just takes pressure off and a little spring pulls it open. i guess it could be stuck shut.

Finally got time to play with it. The pump is turning, I see evidence of the pump moving a little fuel at the injectors (fuel seeping when fittings cracked) but no smoke showing. It'll run on ether, but again no smoke showing. Checked that shut off valve under top cover, seems to be moving. Found a bit of black gunk under top cover and cleaned it out. Good flow at pump inlet, plenty of fuel.

This thing is really worn engine wise. Good compression is just a memory. But I need to be able to move it around. Could it be I just need to crack all the lines at the injectors and keep turning it over? I've had to bleed other tractors, but this seems excessive. I should at least be seeing something in the way of smoke every now and again, but it's got zilch.

Can't hurt to try as along as the pump is free. Block the throttle wide open, make sure fuel is on and air-free up to the pump. Open all the injector lines at the injectors, 1/4 to 1/2 turn. Make sure the battery is up, maybe leave jumpers or charger connected. Crank until clear fluid with no bubbles comes out all injector lines. Stop cranking, tighten injector lines, remove throttle block, try to start.
