885 injector pump

I have a david brown 885 diesel and the injector pump is leaking bad from the gasket. If I take the pump out to replace the gasket can I get the timing off?or can I put the pump back the same way I took it off?

I repaired two pumps last winter like you have. Look closely, at one of the three mounting flange ears there's a scribe line that should be lined up with another line on the engine. Pump can be removed/replaced using that mark. Pump drive hub is splined, and the hub and drive shaft have a wide spline on one side to keep from getting out of time as it will only fit one way. One of the easier pumps to remove/replace, far as timing is concerned.

Leaking from the gasket under the top cover? No need to remove pump from tractor! Easy fix. Leave it in situ. Remove top cover. Install new gasket and while you are in there, replace the rubber o-rings on the throttle shaft and the kill switch shaft. I've done this on about six CAV pumps.

Now here's the hard part! When you loosen up top cover and as you are separating the cover from the rest of the pump, you have to look underneath the cover (with a flashlight and with your eyeglasses on!) and NOTE WHICH OF THE THREE HOLES THE LITTLE TEET ON THE END OF THE SPRING IS IN. Make double sure you put the teet back in the same hole!

Also note: the opposite end of the spring has three possible holes! Make sure that end of the spring goes back in the same hole when you reassemble. Once you get in there and do it, you will agree that this is an easy fix.

As always, keep dirt and grit out of the inside of your pump.

Watch this excellent video. It will show what you have to do:

Indiana, are you just wanting to replace the gasket between the block and the pump? If you are, easy peasy. Just lift pump up and put gasket on and reinstall pump. Only goes on one way.

In other words what I am trying to find out, will my 880 pump fit an 885. I knew the 990's had a cav, for some reason I thought the 3 cylinders had a pump made by some other company but I never really looked.
