Just wondering what you guys would use for oil in a 930 that has had everything stripped for a puller, should I be using tdh or can I run 80-90 gear oil, or 85-140
Thanks
Ben

I'm not sure on early 6spd 930s, but all the others us hyd oil, not 80/90. I ran my 6spd puller for years with just enough oil to reach the gears.

It's an 8spd, I was just wondering because the only thing that's in the trans and differential is gears now, I know the 400's had 80-90 in the trans and differential and trans Hyd in the hydraulic pump section. I just thought the heavier oil might help but didn't know if anyone on here was doing the same, I thought they just started having a common sump for ease of service
Thanks
Ben

light oil will be fine and have less gear drag BUT, you cannot run that transmission with a minimum of oil in it, the dual range is lubricated by a oil slinger gear and if run low the slinger will run dry and cause the LO/HI range gears to gauld fast to the sliding gear shaft. Removal of the shaft is then accomplished by cutting the gears and shaft out of the housing with a acetylene cutting torch. Run the transmission up to level. The 8 speed and six speed are totally different bears.
