Case 4890 injection pump

Dad has had a 4890 for ten years or so and it has a cold start push button on the fuel pump. Push it in before you start it and the button pops out after you start it. I picked up a 4890, it has the same set
up, but the button does not pop back out after starting. I don't know for sure what the button mechanically does, so does it bother to run with this button pushed in? Thanks for any information.

Those pumps were set up DUMB in my opinion, that trip is the full load fuel stop, and when tripped allows for excess fuel/rack travel for cold starts. Why Scania wanted it set up like that is silly, as pumps with the RSV governor already have that feature AUTOMATICALLY! I changed the pump on my brothers Scania by removing that oil leak prone unit, and putting in the full load fuel stop screw in the governor cover like it should have been in the first place. Another added benefit, then a torque capsule can be installed for better low end pulling at 1500-1600 if needed. Brother REALLY likes the capsule in his..
