Replacing Rear Axle Seal On A 630 Case

A friend says he got a leaky axle seal on his Case 630. I told him he can probably get the seal out without taking the axle casting off. I told him to put a couple of screws in the seal and pull it out. I have not seen the seal or what's it like. He has the hub off the tractor and the axle key-way out also. Was I right or is there some other way?
he said that he wouldn't do anything till I get back to him. Thanks

That is the way I would do it. Tell him to clean the axle well, cut a water bottle to use as a sleeve so the seal doesn't get cut by the keyway. That should get the job done.

Make sure axle bearings aren?t loose.
