730 Case Smoke

I bought this 730 Case and when I bought it, it didn't smoke at all out of the exhaust. But did just a little out of the blow by tube. But it has increased a lot out of the blow by and still none out of the exhaust. Is there anything, other than being worn out, that will cause this? If it needs rebuilding, is there anything unusual about this engine I may need to know? Also I need a seat. Where is the best place to get a new original seat? Thanks in advance...Mark

More information about the color of the smoke and the conditions when it is smoking could be helpful.

If it is only "smoking" out the blow by tube, not the exhaust, and the tractor has not been worked hard for long, that could be steam (white vapor) from moisture in the oil and the crankcase. If it is due for an oil change, I would change the oil to remove the excess moisture.

Do you actually work this tractor ? By work , I mean does it have to pull hard like ploughing or pulling a
dic in the field , or does it just putt around the yard pulling a blade and that kind of work were it never
really gets a sweat on . These diesels in my experience , are built to work, they need to be worked . If
they just idle around, it seems they will smoke and slobber out of the exhaust manifold , and smoke out the
exhaust pipe. This might sound whacky to you but , I would put a half gallon of automatic transmition fluid
into the diesel fuel tank , and take it out and work the snot out of this tractor for a half a day. There
are far more advanced mechanics on this board that can explain this to you much better than I will ever be
able to, but the problem has to do with the fact that this is a low compression , precombustion chamber
diesel , rather than a modern direct injection diesel. These are my thoughts , based on my own use with 730,
930 and 1030 Case tractors that I have. Bruce
