After 2 disastrous purchases of old Ford diesel tractors, I am buying a Case 1290. Problem is, not much information on the tractor out there or after market parts of even accessible used parts. Anyone familiar with this tractor that can give me any pointer or quirks regarding this model?

A 1290 is what replaced the 990. A 990 ranks among the most produced tractors out there, by anyone, ever.

About 90% of the parts from a late model 990 will fit a 1290.

When you get it home, unless someone has for certain done it recently, you need to change the hydraulic filter. It will save you many headaches. About $20 aftermarket, plus 6 gallons of hydraulic oil.

That's great advice. But where is the hydraulic filter located? I noticed the front
loader was slow and I wondered about the filter.

Under the belly of the tractor. drain oil, take out out bolts on round tin pan, pop out filter, take screen out of old filter, clean screen, reverse process.

Loader us never going to be super fast, pump is only 7 gallons per minute.
