400 Racine Mechanical Steering fear Seal replacement

I have dealing with a seal leak in the steering gear
seal # 87792, along with a failed lower needle
bearing # 010972 A B in the steering gear.
Inspection of the spindle number 010970 AB, the
seal area showed signs of fatigue. The seal area
was about .007 deep about 5/8?Up from the base
Square. I carefully polished the affected area with
120 grit paper, finishing with 300 grit sandpaper.
The original seal was 9/16 thick, so two new seals
can comfortably be installed in the counterbore .The
new Seal is 3/8 inch thick, with that said the
counterbore in the base of the housing steering
upper spindle support is three-quarter inch deep. As
per John Saeli?s guidance, install both seals in the
same direction, so if one fails, the other will
compensate. Axle seals and differential seals are a
different case, as far as install. I had a front crank
seal failure this week, so I decided to combine these
two projects as it involves removing the radiator and
steering box. Next week we will discuss the crank
seal replacement on the 411.

Must be a late 400 as I notice the cultivator bracket on the floor. Does it have the cast threaded boss on the column like a 400 Super. My 400s don't have the bracket.

Your spindle shaft looks pretty worn in one spot. Is that where a bearing sets, or the seal? I have a manual steering gear box laying in the weeds still attached to the front booster. Only problem is we live a long ways apart.
