DC Spark Plugs

D16 champion is what came with these tractors back then, including massey and ihc and minneapolis. all had the same plugs.if your just doing chores or puttzing around you might want to go one heat range hotter. wires must be the wire core type, not carbon core.

if just doing chores Champion d21 works well. If plowing or really gonna work her hard I use d16. I have always used champions and never had an issue with them...........Kenny

(quoted from post at 17:00:05 04/08/18) After you get fed up w/ the Champions, Use Autolite 3116. They are an extended tip, non resistor.

I second what John said, back in the day Champs were the plug we all used and successfully, when the gas changed from leaded we started having problems with the D16s fouling soon after a tune up, I worked for a Case dealer all my life in service and have seen this repeat time after time and as a dealer we could not absorb the cost of redos on tune ups. Why should you have to change plugs depending on how you are using the tractor, a D21 is way off from the heat range recommended! I build competition DC Case engines from mild to wild and use 3116 Autolites in all modes of engine builds, have had high compression 4 5/8 bore DCs at over 120 hp on 3116s with no plug related issues and field ready DC using them as well, no running on after the switch is turned of from hot plug tips. from the perspective of someone who builds , dyno tests and maintains a lot of DC engines Autolite stands out as the best. performer in all weather conditions.

Reading this spark plug fouling reminds me about Dad adding twice the dose of lead substitute otherwise the plug would glaze over as he called it. Dad had no trouble with plugs after using a lead additive to fuel but found out he needed to use twice the recommended dose. I cant recall what plug he was using but im certain he tried everything from plug wires to different heat ranges and mfg of plugs before finding a cure. I'm talking years of use here not a few hours of use and hard use at that.

I have found over the years, no matter what application they are used in, that Autolite brand seems best for me. Tractors, trucks, mowers etc.
