Wondering if anyone has opinions on a
late 70s skid steer with a Continental
engine. Parts availability primarily.

I have one, good skid steer BUT the continental is not a cheap engine to repair. I put a Kubota from a refer in mine after I found out I would have a couple grand in the overhaul. Not a true Continental is a foreign built engine. Best thing I ever did was put in the Kubota runs cheap and has plenty of power.

Just out of curiosity, what did the new engine set you back? I'm just thinking ahead. This one runs on propane and was originally used at a beet plant. I just like to think worst case scenario if the engine tanks on me.

The Continental engine is actually a Renault engine. Has a lot of commonality with the engine used in a Renault Lecar. Lots of interchangeable parts. That is why the engine is referred to as the Continental R engine. Has aluminum cylinder head. Does not like overheating or a loss of coolant. Warps the head real quick.
