got time to get the powershift apart and yes the bolts holding c2 and 3 did break. I think that I remember reading somewhere about an update that was needed? What all
does this update involve. The tractor has never been split before to our knowledge. Thanks.

You can get the parts for a 2390 that use 1/2 bolts, or drill yours out and install 7/16 bolts or reinstall the 3/8 bolts. If you plan on putting thousands of hrs on the tractor the upgrades would be a good choice. If not the standard 3/8 generally last several thousand hrs also. Rod.

I have no experience repairing these trannys but FYI here is some general info about bolts. Also, the cross section shows the bolts in question recessed so you will need a fastener that will recess. We all know that bolts come in various grades.

What grade did Case use at the factory? I don't know. What all grades can we now buy at a dealer or other bolt place? We know the variation is large. Does the current CaseIH dealer (or current counterperson) give a hoot about the 70 series tractor?

I would insist on knowing that the bolt strength was labeled as 170000 strength or greater---weather I oversize or stayed with 3/8. I would consider either an allen head bolt, 12point bolt, or stud and 12point nut. I would use some blue Loctite.

I am guessing the factory may have used grade 5 or maybe purchased bolts from the lowest bidder with poor quality control. I would know for sure I was using grade 8 or 9. Will stop preaching to the choir. LOL
