Just had the starter rebuild to solve this issue on a new to me tractor. Starter was trashed and needed completely redone. Put it back into the tractor spins it right over nicely, still a grinding noise. Pull the starter back out and hit it with a battery, no grinding noise. Teeth on the bendix and the ring gear look fine, nothing obvious shining a light into the starter hole. There is no grinding noise once the engine is running either. Any ideas??
