cast or steel?

The dry sleeves in the 164 were made from cast and are no longer available. Would sleeves made from steel work?

They will have different properties as far as expansion. I would expect more expansion and contracting. They may even shrink permanently from being heated and cooled.

Down a little in posts there was someone that had 18-32 sleeves made from sleeve material. It was sold by the foot or something like that. Might be worth a look

John,

All the ones I have had in were bored block. Are those flanged liners or straight?

Several options for boring the block for sleeves, put shelf in bottom to set sleeve on,

bore top for counter bore and make counter bore repair from thicker sleeve. I have made

counter bore inserts for ford tractor engines , have put many repair inserts in NH & NT

Cummins, also some case blocks .

Call me with some dimensions .
