Case SC Splitting Pins

I know this topic has been listed before, but my search didn't bring it up. What is the recommended diameter and length for splitting pins? I need to replace my flywheel starter ring gear. Also, what's the best way to support the tractor halves? I thought about some sort of transmission jack, see link.

Your splitting pins are 3/4" diameter x13 and 11/16 long. I drill an 1/4 " hole 1/2" in from each end and insert 2 cotter pins. Material is carbon steel.CM

Thanks for the info. Looks like it is not necessary to support the front half with anything other than the pins.

Why is the length measurement so precise? I don't see what they would hit if they were a little longer?

I?m sure like anything there?s a beginning and an end to everything. But like I described will be more than adequate, but if I were to speculate, making them too much longer, they would probably bend under the stress. CM
