A DC memory

When I was in my teens, a long time ago, I got a job gathering sap for a neighbor. He had an old Case DC that he used to pull the gathering tank through the woods. My brother and I would empty the pails then dump in the tank. Once full it was about a mile and a half run back to the sap shanty.
I remember driving that DC back down the muddy gravel road. Thee was no muffler or fenders and the tires had chains. Once in 4th gear the chains were a clanging, mud was flying and a deafening sound from the straight pipe as the tractor pulled up the hills. It was fun.

Mine is pulling the Manure Spreader in the dead of winter. I recall straddling that rear end sitting on the seat and feeling the comforting heat radiating off of it. I brought my SC home for the first time on a cold October morning and recalled that memory fifty years later. It was worth the price of the tractor just recalling that moment!

The Ol Gent is Still making Memories here.. every day .the heart and soul of a 51 DC in its victorious pull will last a lifetime.AND Beyond !.around 1987 Lanesville Heritage WEEKend .Pops'51 DC was Fresh off the Feed Grinder, and roaded the 4 miles in road gear for the tractor pull.i had 500 lbs solid cast blocks Hooked on the cultivator lift arms and another 500 on the front cultivator bracket clamps . I followed a Jd 60 , i was the last of 9 to pull .the favored IHC M turned down his 1st pull ,and improved by another 6 feet on his 2nd try . everything had to be 1959 vintage or older.7000 lb. class . Lucky for us .none of the 2 Ollie 88s were weighted right,So after watching that ,i Knew Pops DC stood a very good chance of taking it all home ,.And That Old gentleman certainly put on a show ,...When i engaged the clutch in low gear ,the Ol gent Grunted at half throttle, after about 25 feet i reved him to wide open and the govenor was doing " JUST Perfect"That Strait PIPE was Wanting To Be Heard ! .around 135ft it was hard traking and the front end was feeling touchey as that DC was really leaning into the pull..the last 75 feet was pulled with the front wheels off the track..It was beautiful, The Ol gent would be Growlnhard and the Wheels would lift a foot hi at times and then drop back to skimming the track , one of The rear wheels would grab hard and swing the front end, and i would tap the brake to bring him on back toward mid track , . In The last 5 ft around 210 mark .. That Ol BOy Was Waggling the front end back and forth a foot or more and He was in the air a foot and No more . Al Traction was Lost, and to be honest , The Ol Boy was all but powered Out when We got the red flag ,But It was A magnificent Pull, and I Hoped We won , But i was not Sure,.The final tally put us in 1st place by 10 inches,. my Wife and i Were thrilled .my dad was so Proud .he had watched every second , I just wish someone had taken a vidio of that Awesome afternoon . i loved that pull
