Case SC - holes in block?

I am restoring a 1942 SC for someone and I am wondering why there are 2 holes in the back of the block. I know they were put there for a reason but it looks to me like they would blow oil out on to the crankshaft. Any help is appreciated. :?

I'm sorry, I meant to type CLUTCH, not crankshaft.
Thank you

The answer is the same. Those holes supply oil to the clutch housing. The clutch was designed to run in oil. While you're at it, make sure you clean all the sludge out of the clutch housing. I'm sure a few owners of the tractor in the past neglected to drain the clutch housing while changing the crankcase oil.
