Not familiar with Hobart welders, but before you buy another stick welder, do some research on MIG welders. I have a small 110V Lincoln SP 100 with gas that I do 90% of my welding with. It will nicely weld light sheet metal as well as up to 1/4" material well. I still use my 1950s Lincoln Tombstone stick welder for welding heavier steel.

I very seldom weld anything that is 1/8" thick. The piece I was welding today was probably 3/8" or more, I didn't measure it before I started making the welds. I had to put a different capacitor in my old welder around 25 years ago. I don't think that's the problem with it this time. I'll probably strip all the aluminum out of it for scrap instead of making an attempt at repairing it.

The welder I'd really like to have is a Lincoln shield arc DC welder, but it would take up too much room in my garage.

I dont have any experience with that particular welder how ever I would not be affraid of any hobart welder at all. Hobarts are really just
Miller welders anyway and in my opinion I prefer Millers over Lincolns.I dont really have a good justification for that as they are both
excellent brands and I have used both but find that I just seem to like the Millers a little better. Just my 2 cents take it for what its
worth lol.

That must be an inverter welder. Seems to
be the new thing. I've never tried one, but
the reviews generally are either great or
terrible, largely depending on the brand
and use. I would check u-tube for chuck-
e2009(aka Lanse) to see if he reviewed this
one. But he has tested inverter welders and
has good responses for them. My
undestanding is they work good for some
stuff, but not other things.

Yes I agree. Consider a MIG welder. I think that is the trend. I took a welding class at local community college and it was all about MIG, gas
and non gas. They highly recommended using Lincoln wire no matter what brand of welder, even a harbor freight one. Lincoln has the market
on wire, it is the best. Instructor was an expert and knew what to use. We had some new off brand welders to use and they were fine. The
secret is the wire. Get the amp that you need.
