Does anyone have a new or used gas cap for a vac. I am not sure if all VACs came with the rear hinged hood, but that is what I got. That means the cap can't have any shoulders on it. I have ordered 2 from Stieners. First one came with the tangs loose in the package. The replacement they sent lasted a month and now the tangs are coming loose again. I am hoping if I can find a real Case gas cap it will last longer than a month.
Thanks

Have a chrome one on mine. BUT I have to take the cap off to lift the hood since its diameter is larger than hole in hood. Be interesting to see what others have. Maybe I too can find a proper cap. gobble

I have 2 VAC parts tractor and I know I have a couple of gas caps but not sure any of the ones I still have are the type that you can lift the hood and leave the cap on. I know for sure one is the type that you cannot open the hood with but would have to check the other one if I can find it

Yes, I would need the one that allows you to open the hood. Not that I have to do it that often. I actually have a good one of the other kind.

That was what mine came with. I ordered the proper one from Steiner which allows me to open the hood without taking off the cap. They are junk I guess. Don't have to have the right one as I don't open the hood that much, but every time you take the cap off when opening the hood, you have a minute when any odd thing might fall in.

I think most of the VACs I have even seen had the cap that you had to remove to get the hood open which to me is odd but who know maybe they ran out of the other type when they where building them

I looked at the cap in the online parts book. It looks just like the shoulderless one I got from Steiner (not that you can tell much by the picture) and Steiner says that cap works for unpressurized radiators for some makes as well. Since it has to allow the hood to open, it was built pretty lightly. It probably broke or went missing pretty quickly. By the amount of junk that was in my tank, mine was missing one for a while before they bought the cap that doesn't let the hood open.

ken, Case part number is G13271 AN REPLACED BY D93757 AT A COST OF $20.00. If you go to your Case dealer web site ,go to parts and type in vac 13.This will show you the part . Jerry from OHIO

Don't waste your time with anything due the right one. I thought Don Livingston was making repos. Not sure. They are on eBay from time to time. Those caps were not made by case, Maybe carter not sure don't have one handy. I will share with you a little secret they were also used on Wisconsin engines. The last one I bought was at Portland swap meet. A guy had a Wisconsin gas tank, I ask the price. He said 5 bucks I said ok. Gave him 5 buck took the gas cap and left the tank.

Yogi Berra once said, "You can observe a lot by watching." I guess I should of observed more. When my gas cap started rattling around and when I lifted it only one tang was engaged, I assumed it was coming apart like the last one. I was out messing with it tonight and took the cap off to give it a complete inspection. The tangs weren't loose. One of them was just cockeyed and would not engage the tank. A little armstrong and it was working. Thanks for the imput though.
