I have this tractor and the manuals for it. There seems to be well referenced in the owners manual that there is a optional high speed 4th gear which correlates well to the parts manual showing a different set of gears fro 4th gear with the optional high speed 4th gear. I am told this is designated by H after the serial number. All the other gears are the same and there is no reference to an optional low speed transmission anywhere in the owners manual. Every gear is the same clutch to back wheel in the normal tractor save the optional high 4th gear one.
If the L does indeed mean low gearing, is it simply all tractors without the high 4th gear? if is is a special lower than standard speed transmission, how do they do it? I cannot see how. And my tractor seems to move about at the standard speed. Trying hard to understand. Thanks in advance!

Always thought the H was for the high speed road gear...got a 310 and 200 both have the H designation. L to me means normal speed road gear. If the H is present it is high speed, if not it is regular gearing...my thoughts only.

No extra letter at the end of the serial is std gearing, "L" is low speed gearing "H" is for high speed 4th gear only,, they changed the bull gears and pinion gears for "L" or low speed gearing,, I have both H and L versions here and also them with no letter and std gearing

I have heard that so many times, but it cannot be that as there is only one part number in the book for the bull gears, one part number each for the crown and pinion gears. The pull pinion gear changed once, but it was at a serial number break. The transmission gears are all the same except the optional 4th gear high speed. I can only think if is indeed gearing, then anything not an H would have to be an L.

I don't think you would like the 4th gear unless you take the tractor out on paved roads.

I did do that. It seems about normal to me. My point is the gearing in the parts book, owners manual, and advertising only supports standard 4th gear and special high 4th gear. The 400b brochure supports optional low, standard and optional high 4th gear. What does the L stand for then? Anyone ever seen one without an H or L?

Thanks. Do you notice anything different between all of them? I would imagine a fast 4th gear on the H model Are they all 200B models? You are pretty lucky if they area as they seem like the more rare model of the series it seems. Any with the standard 4 speed only? Thanks.

I did last fall. It seemed about normal to me. I see no way in the parts department it can be made go slower. There is only one part number for the bull gears and pinions, crown and pinion and one for each transmission gear set except 4th which has standard and optional high 4th gear. It is a standard 4 speed only, so I cannot imagine how it could be different than the standard model with the normal speeds. I must be missing something or the L means something else on the 200.
