What engine is in my DB885? I had assumed Perkins built the 3-cylinder engines used in David Brown diesel powered tractors but read on Tractor-Data.com that they are of David Brown manufacture. A valve cover gasket will be needed shortly, it would be nice to know what engine it is for parts look-up besides just referring to the tractor model.
 
Scott, Go to CNHI click on parts then type in 885 and it will take you to your parts brake down. If CNHI does not work, type in your dealers name.

Thanks for the link. Do the DB engines have names or designations? Example: Chevy has the smallbock, big block the LS series engines, Ford has Windsors, Y-blocks, 385's, FE's and so on. We have an older Toyota with a 4FE. Just curious.

I did find a short writing on David Brown engines on-line. In it there is mention of fitting a Perkins to a DB tractor for test purposes. Sir David is supposed to have pitched a fit when he saw it. So much for my initial assumption regarding Perkins!
 
The 3 cylinder ones are all the same engine(gas and diesel) with some minor changes as they evolved.

AD3/55 would be the nomenclature. A-agricultural, D-diesel, 3-cylinders, 55- cubes per cylinder

There is also a 49 cube version with a 4" versus 4.5" stroke(used in the 770).

The gas version had a different head and pistons, Governor and distributor mounted where the injector pump was on the diesels.
