I was out plowing snow with a Case 444 yesterday and just about 3/4 of the way through, A BIG BANG and she was all done. OOPs, I think she through a rod. I can reach in and spin the fan very easily. I went out and got the Power King with a plow and luckily the old girl started so I could finish the driveway. A friend of mine showed up and we pushed the Case into the shop. Had to go to the doctor so didn't get a chance to look it over. Later today when I get back from a stress test at Basset Hosp I may get a chance to look it over. OR maybe I'll work on the Case 444 that I'm putting a snowblower on. Still gotta put some weights and chains on it. I prefer to use the Case tractors for snow removal because of all the forward and back when plowing. The PK is gear drive. I have a Kohler from an old Ford GT but I think it's a 12 Hsp. Supposed to be 8 inches of snow coming tomorrow. If all else fails I can call my grandson and give him a good laugh.

Anytime is never a good time to have a breakdown. I don't think your Ford Kohler will work in the case. You will have to have one designed for the 444. Are you sure the rod broke?

L. Fure, you are right, the Case block has the pump mounting bolt pattern and a locating ring cast into the block, looks like he did better than I when mine blew, I knew something wasn't right when I saw the starter hanging from its wire down at the deck, made a mess on my deck as it kept running with the side of the engine blown out with a 6 inch hole, I believe it threw a balance weight. Hab d to shut it off with the switch!!

A lot of people remove those balance weights for just that reason. They are known to fragment and ruin a good engine.

Dave should go to this site for help.

He should also call Bill at Barneveld Implement for any parts he might need. Or another engine. They also have tractors they can get a used engine off of if he wants to go that route.

Hope your stress test went well!! I would think the engine problem would be all the stress you would need.

The Stress test went very well. As far as the snow removal goes, I now have the Power King with the blade on it I used this morning, we had about 5" at 9AM. Since I plowed this morning, I have also got the weights , chains and snowblower on a different Case, and am getting ready to give it a try this afternoon. I'll probably get into the bad engine a little this afternoon.

This morning I went out and plowed snow with the Power King then I worked on getting the other Case 444 with a $400 rebuild on the engine, ready to blow snow. After lunch at 2pm I went out with the Case and blew snow for about an hour. I used it on the tractor that blew up and it worked great. It is working great again this year. I cleaned the driveway and also made a path so I could get the truck out of the backside of the garage.
Then I started on the one that threw a rod. Didn't get very far but I took off the fuel pump and looked through the hole and the rod is no longer connected to the crank.
We got a total of about 7 inches of snow today.
