930 head gaskets

Picked this 930 up about a month ago, motor
sounded good but was popping back through the
intake, I thought it was a valve but this was what I
found, going to have head checked and new
gaskets

Almost looks like some irrigating of the sleeve flange. If so, a new gasket will not last. Lets see what it looks like when you have it cleaned up. After it's cleaned up will also be a good time to check the sleeve protrusion.

How far should the sleeved protrude above the block? I'm asking incase 111 doesn't have that information.

I had a problem like this with a DC I put new sleeves and pistons in. I ended up having a friend make shims to place under the sleeve flange to bring two of them up to protrude above the block. It's been so long since I did this that I don't remember how far up they needed to be.
 
CASE says .002" to .006" protrusion. However, when I install sleeves, my maximum between 2 sleeves under 1 head is .003". I play musical chairs with them, actually striving for less difference than that.
 
The block and sleeve flange cleaned up good, I haven't checked the protrusion yet, but John do you have fire rings in different thicknesses? I have an extra set of gaskets, but was just curious about the rings, I know i used to be able to get them.

Ben: I'm not aware of any head gasket for the 930 using a separate fire ring. Any 930 Head gasket I've seen all have the ring molded in. The 830 & 1030 head gasket use a separate fire ring, and that ring was available in 2 thicknesses.
