Some RC Questions

Does anybody know if all the 39 RC's had sunburst grills or was there some that had the standard front? Also How many electric start RC's were built and were they all 39's?

The first styled RC (flambeau red with sunburst grill) came out in late 38. Like cars models were not changed on January 1. I have seen a few 38s with flambeau red and sunburst grill besides my dads. The first styled RCs had unstyled fenders, not sure when those were changed to the rounded ones, mid 39 guessing. Electric start was an option. Most build cards on these tractors were destroyed in a fire. Hope this helps a little.

Also, R series was built through 40 model year, so models with starters would include those as well. I think a large portion of 38 model year styled models we see were converted from unstyled in order to enhance saleability. This included adding a 4th gear. We had a styled R with earlier serial than our unstyled R, plus a 4th gear (not stamped in cover), and the newer style fenders. My uncle had a 39 styled with earlier style fender, 4th gear also also unstamped. It's hard to follow a clear line on change dates, because I think so many were changed either at the factory, or at a dealer with an update kit.
