Prefix to a DC serial number

I recently picked up a DC4. Any idea what the AP, stamped in front of the serial number, means? None of my other tractors has a prefix to it's serial number

Larry,

It would be interesting to see the build card on that one to see if it was stored in the Racine warehouse and refitted with 4" aluminum pistons, or in dealer inventory and redone by the dealer. Assuming serial numbers are the same as on dash. My 52 DCS is stamped the same as your 52 DC4. Did your trip go as planned? Don

Trip went great, only cost me one trailer tire, 25 miles from the farm.... 'course after dark, gravel road etc etc. Neat day, a bit long 350 one way. Neat tractor, super people just fun. The dash serial is the same as the block. So that's nifty on the pistons, oughta wind up like a small block in a starlight coupe.............

Your tractor may have originally been built as a D. Notice that the letter D matches the rest of the serial number and the letters DC appear smaller. There may be 2 build cards for your tractor if it was originally built as a D. I have seen this before.I would ask Joan to look into this. If it was originally built as a D and held in storage they may have added the Aluminum Pistons when it was converted to a DC-4. This could have been done as a way to clear out inventory. Good luck and let us know what you find out.

I just talked with Joan, and she's digging into this for me. If you chat with her, bring up her Danish heritage, we gabbed for several minutes about Swede, Norwegian, Dutch (a lot of Racine according her)
backgrounds. Interesting person, with a lot of data available.......... It'll be fun to see what she can track down.
