The crankshaft center main journal had begun to pound out the brg, this could have been the source of filings I was told of. The liner was still tight in the block but
had shown signs of heating. The crank was bent .009, was straightened, and ground, .010 mains and rods remain std. Good thing they discontinued using it. Block might
need line boring if the center main got hammered even though liner never turned, seen it before on these small journal blocks. Got a pile of parts to go out to the wash
area and get the radiator checked out also, Rod.

Interesting find.

It's a lot easier to put something back together when you find the root cause of the problem...

Our local Arnolds closed its machine shop. Send it all to Des Moines. Disappointing. Not very convenient. There is another machine shop in town but they are now backed up a mile.

Ain't that the truth! Still haven't found the reason for the failure in my 1030. If the weather stays warm I may start assembling it again this weekend.

A good friend of mine who was an Arnold Motors machinist told me a couple years ago they just can’t find enough machinists to fill their shops. I think it’s on par with the rest of the skilled trades.
