I recently bought a 430 case with diesel engine from the scrap yard. upon investigating I find it has two broken valves bent pushrods 3 broken valve springs and a pretty rough looking piston from the valves beating on it. head is possibly salvageable? piston is not. how do I check to make sure linners don't leak should I decide to fix it. thanks for any info

If you need a piston you need new sleeves also! Patching together a diesel does not seem to pay.

It will depend on how the rest of the tractor looks. I wouldn't stick a lot of money in the engine if the tractor needs a lot of work.

To test the o-rings at the bottom of the sleeves you need to make sure radiator is full. Then remove the oil pan so you can see the bottom of the sleeves. Pump air into the cooling system at, or a little above, the pressure that the cooling system usually gets to while the tractor is running. The psi for the cooling system is usually stamped on the radiator cap. Keep it at operating pressure for awhile to make sure no fluid from the cooling system is leaking past the seals.
