Pistons and head back on DC4

Got the Pistons with new rings in and the head back on. Checked the Babbitt bearings with plastic guage. It had 3 shims on the caps so I checked it with 3, got .003, I checked it with two shims and got .0015. I stayed with 3, did not want bearings to be too tight ? It had good oil pressure before so it should be ok. Now I have a lot of prepping to do to get DC painted. I have the fenders, hood, seat and three point all removed so I can sand and sand blast parts and paint them. My shops a little tight to paint the main tractor inside so I'll prep it and roll it outside and push it back in after I paint it so it can dry. I usually paint all the loose parts and hang them inside the shop to dry using my wood stove. The transmission cover was seeping oil si I am pulling the cover to install a new gasket. I hope the shifting forks aren't to bad to get back in the right place. Light rain and mid Fortas here this week. We had the dryest December in years. Dick

Coming along nicely. Nice work. BTW Dick, we have an extra room & numerous tractors that need repair. House & shop both warm, and Chris is a good cook, and if you back away from the table hungry, it's your own fault!!

John if there's no snow and its above 55 degrees I might think about it. Just think about it that is. Dick

The forks stay with the tractor, you can remove the shifter lever and install it later, the only fork you need to be concerned with is the PTO fork, that stays with the top.

Aaawww shucks. 22 right now & overcast. High tomorrow of 2 above & ZERO Sat.!! But the house & shop are warm!!
