Cost of Babbitt bearings

Hi my dc3 needs new rod and crank bearings. What would be the going rate to have them made?
I am having trouble finding someone in my area to make them. I may have to drive further than I hoped.

I've seen Babbitt bearings for a case D on e-bay. Have you tried John Saleli? You still have to have the new Babbitt bearings sized to fit your crank. Dick

John is good people and a good friend, I'm sure he can get this work done for you but it is a specialty. The mains will come as semi finished and require a specialized line boring machine designed for the purpose to size them to the crank.

For best results the crank should be trued up for roundness as it must be measured to get accurate settings on the boring tool. The rods are sized when they are returned as you will send the journal diameters sizing info when you send the rods.

Our line bore is a Kwik Way portable and can be set up for many different engines and can also be set up for main bearing block bore repairs where the shell turns in the block on shell type bearings, We bought it mainly to do DC stuff.

Contact Don Livingston. He can get your old ones redone for you. I will be sending him a set in the near future.

I have a Sunnen bearing sizer that belonged to an old man that had a machine shop. I only bought it because I thought someone smarter than
me needed it to size these old Babbitt bearing motors. I would like to sell it and all of the sizing molds if anyone is interested.

(quoted from post at 03:40:12 01/03/18) Where could I get the contact info for John or don. Thanks

I'm glade someone is doing this work again. When I worked at a auto parts store we had an older gentleman rebuild a Ford V-8 flat head for a relative of our store manager. He sent the block, crank, and rods to a shop in Madison, WI. to have the Babbitt redone. I was told that the fellow that did the work was quit old, and when he passed on that would be the end of getting these engines done.
They told me that there wasn't enough demand for this kind of work to bother with training a new person to pour Babbitt for these old engines.

He took care of having the rod end bearings re-babbitted for my D.
