Steering Gear Box on 611B

Has anyone done a steering box overhaul off a 611B or another model with same setup? I & T Manuel says you have to take radiator off and plate under it to get top off gearbox? Seal and bearing out of worm shaft going to steering shaft. can't tell if top will lift off shaft to pull it off and clear radiator, If cannot get top to come off, gasket is shot and will have to pull radiator. just wondering if someone has done this project? Really hate to have to pull radiator and deal with Case-O-matic lines. but will if I have to I guess. Thanks for any help you can give. Gene

I'd sure find a CASE FACTORY shop manual, would get into that in great detail. Either Case Club has several ads for good lit dealers and, of course the standby E-Bay will, most likely, have one

I have run into a similar situation when I opened my 411 to replace a $3.00 seal in the steering bolster. Tear her down and take the radiator out and give her a good flush. Sometimes you have to remove a lot to do a little. It gives you an opportunity to work unfettered on what you really need to do. That is experience talking. CM

I have the factory manual, and while it has some excellent diagrams, I don't see where it gives a detailed procedure for getting the gear out of the tractor. Here is the section (2 pages) that covers the spindle shaft and adjustment:

The section on the steering cam and housing is longer, if you think it might be of use let me know, I'll try to get it scanned & uploaded over the weekend.

I own and Operate a Case 610B with a second 610B parts machine:
