I am working on a case 930 with hyd problems and was looking for some help. The pressure at the remotes was weak (400 psi) and sporadic also the 3point was slow and jerking , also the hyd oil is full of air bubbles. I replaced the spin on filter on the left side of the tractor behind the battery and it made no difference . I removed the hyd pump and it looks pretty worn and the shaft seal is hard . I was trying to find out if this tractor has a suction screen somewhere in the rear end . My IT manual does not refer to a screen . Thanks for any help .

Yes, there is a suction screen, but you need to pull the PTO housing to get at it, unless someone knows a shortcut, I don't. You mention the shaft seal being hard, but what did the Face seal look like? It is easy to lose. A missing or compromised Face seal will cause the symptoms you describe. Did you disassemble the pump to determine it's wear? It should have been re-sealed with new internals if you did disassemble, including the aforementioned seals. If the gears and housing are badly worn, there is no solution but to replace the pump.

I disassembled the pump the housing is pretty rough and the gear tips show wear also. I only saw the outer shaft seal I didn"t see a face seal.

Check to see if your housing is worn out were the shafts set. If the housing is worn out you have to replace the pump. A few ugly gear teeth may not be an end all to a pump but a worn housing is an end all to a pump.

I have never seen a repair for a bad housing as of yet. Maybe someday someone will figure out a way to repair them.

I'm sure someone has mentioned this in the past but will throw it out there again. Would elec-tro plating the pump body work to add a few thousands of surface area to the pump body and cover. Zinc would probably not be durable enough cadium I'm unsure of but maybe brass stuck with chromium. Just a thought I've wondered about. Some hrdraulic pumps are no longer available and most used ones are just that used up. Opinions anyone??? gobble

Check this out, however if the gears & housing are too bad, I don't see the sense in throwing $$$ at it.

John i didnt realize you had that kit. If the housing isnt shot all to heck, $155 to rebuild that pump isnt a bad deal.

Thank you for sharing that info!

John i have thought there should be away to rebuild the pump housings were the pump shafts run. Have you ever heard of a way to rebuild a pump housing. i have an idea about milling out the bad spot and milling a 7075 aluminum slug to be tig welded into the new hole with a proper sized bushing for the shaft. The center of an egg shaped hole can be found with a center finder in a mill. So that shouldnt be a problem.

I have never heard of a way to restore those housings, but I have had the very same idea as you just stated, and ran it by machinists, only to be shot down.

What about using a 70 series pump? My 1030 one has similar issues, and I have 3 known good pumps from 770-1070s. Could just route the 8gpm side back into the rear end. maybe through a filter first.

The drive splines are the same, and it bolts on the same, but the seals for the suction line are
completely different. It could be possible with some ingenuity and lathe work. if I did it I would
tee the full pump flow together and use it.

I have one of those, would like to think I have the other. Maybe get rid of the belt driven steering pump in the process.
