CASE 430 oil pressure

I had low oil pressure 3 to 6 pounds on a Case CK tractor. I removed the oil pan and put in a bigger spring in the oil pump (supposedly what the manufacturer recommended). My gauge only goes up to 30 pounds, the needle is pegged. How much oil pressure is to much and what damage can it do running at that high of oil pressure. Thanks for any help anyone can be. Wayjo

25 to 27 psi is what you should have. Does your manual speak of a oil sending unit ? perhaps it may have been removed before you acquired her. Do you have another gauge to check it against?CM

its a pressure sensitive gauge, with no sending unit. going to get another oil pressure gauge to check it. The spring I put in was a little longer than the one I took out and also a heavier gauge. thanks for your reply

Bang! That is why you are seeing your gauge peg. That spring is too long . But the oil pressure is still misrepresented. I have a chart somewhere that tells me the length and wire size for the spring that you need. Let me ,if I can put my hands on it.CM It is in your service manual , if you have one.

Sorry I don't have a manual. There is a cup on the outside of the oil pump. does the spring so inside it or is the cup on the opening of the cup nearest the cotter pin. when I took it out the spring was on the inside of the cup. I know the oil pump had been rebuilt in the past (gear was marked this die out by someone) and I am sure it was not done at the factory.

I can not say with out looking at the parts break down. A service manual will be a valuable tool for you, and I suggest you start there. Best of luck.Welcome to the forum.CM.
