HP limits on a 1070 engine

Dad bought what he thought was an 1175 last year. Turns out it is an 1175 back end with a 1070 engine and jerry rigged turbo.

How much power can the 1070 engine handle doing field work?

Are the smaller wristpins going to be the issue? If I overhauled it, I would put an 1175 kit and rods, but it seems to run ok, so hate to put that money into it.

Probably going to put a set of manifolds and a turbo on it, might as well set the fuel correctly while I am at it.

If it need an overhaul put in the 1175 piston and sleeve set,1170,75,2090,2290 rods will be needed also. There are some OEM Case sleeve kits on ebay,I think he goes by cedar farm,I think they were $200.00 per pair.I have manifolds
and other parts if you need. 715-308-2163

I have bought parts from him before, top shelf service.

I have a set of 1175 rods if it comes to that.

I don't intend to spend big money on it, No plans for an overhaul as of now, just get it in the field to be a cheap horse.

RG as you know those engines are nearly the same. The 1175 pistons I think had a bit more piston to sleeve clearance and Case put a engine oil cooler on the turboed
engine. I think the 1175 also got a few more qu. of oil even though the pans are the same. Add a pyro, watch exhaust temp and quality lube and you should have no issues
pulling 135 hp. Rod.

Thanks, I have an oil cooler too. I figured to add that since all it would cost me is an extra oil filter.

We turboed several 1070s over the years. Fitted 1175 manifolds and oil cooler, plus added a bigger air cleaner. (very important). We set them at 142-145 HP and they did well. They could make 160 pretty easy, but we didn't go there. We cautioned customers to keep them light, pull the same implements as before, and not to strap them down.

I believe it, my current 1175 seems well north of that, it will work circles around the 1370 until the temperature gauge creeps up. It will pull a 10 shank disc chisel in whatever gear you can stay in the seat.

Did you manage to get a bigger air cleaner under the hood, or did you go external?

We went external. Cut a hole in the side of the cowl panel and we had access to some big dry type air cleaners off some Detroit engines. Mounted them by corner of cab and ran intake stack up to top of cab corner. I made battery removal a bit harder, but only had to take bowel of bottom of air cleaner so the tray would clear.

Here is what I had to do to keep our 1175 from overheating. I installed 2 - 160 T'stats and drilled holes in each, can't remember for sure, but maybe 2 - 3/16 holes in each. This creates a bypass @ the T'stat and will allow it to open sooner. The final, and most effective thing I did was to shim the fan shroud back, maybe 1/2".
