Anyone change the seals on the right brake shaft with the backhoe frame on? The little double seals on the differential lock shaft? Son has got one out but can't get the other out. May just replace the one. One we got out looks good. Old Case mechanic says its doable but diffacult. Like to hear from someone else that has done this.

I did them on a 580C. I drilled a very small hole in the seal and pulled it with a small sheet metal screw.

I have done them, that way too on 580B's it is a bit cramped but like said it can be done,, at the worst you can drop the one mount,, it is MUCH easier if you set the hoe off though, I always drop the hoe when working in that area

Get a cheapie o ring pick, 90 deg. grind it down till you can slip it under the seal lip and turn it 90 deg to stand it up and use a pair of sidecutters against the end of the shaft and grab the pick and pry it out. With the original seals it was common to put two in but the seals were redesigned and the sealing lip protrudes outside the front edge of the shell and if you drive two in the second seal lip just drives the rubber part up against the inner seals metal shell. The newer seal is a spring loaded lip and much better design than the original. A driver to seat the seal at the proper depth should be used. I have used a piece of exhaust tubing with a stainless steel hose clamp as a stop to drive them straight to the proper depth.
