Was a 1964 positive or negative ground? I hooked it up negative ground and it starts fine. My temp gauge does not read and not sure the amp guage is working. I'm wondering if it should be positive ground? Thanks, Dick

Gas or diesel?? If it is a gas then look at the coil and see which small post goes to the +. if it has the marking that is. Is the - side goes to the distributor then it is - ground but if the + go to the distributor likely to be + ground

Early Rock Island built 530's are POS ground,, I am not sure and will have to check but I think yours should be NEG ground, but that should make no diff on the temp gauge as thy just are a volt meter, the more they ground the hgher the gauge reads,, take the wire off the sending unit, turn the key on and ground the unhooked wire, if all is good from the wire to the gauge the needle will peg at the hottest reading.
