A good customer brought his 870 over because of powershift issues. He can not understand why his RPS valve has spools sticking again. Well at least he did not throw the bypass valves away, but they will do no good if he installs them in the top of the filters again. Geez, I hate to tell him after 30 years of owning this tractor he screwed up, but I guess I have to. Rod.

Well I am not a Case guy. So would you explain what he did wrong in a little more detail for the Non Case expert group. LOL

I am guessing that these valves have to be switched when you change the filters and he put them in the wrong end????

Well Rod, better you telling him as a old friend, then him taking it somewhere, they tear it all down and give him a 8k bill, he will be thankful for good friends like you

As Tom's pic shows the valves go in the bottom of the filters. When installed correctly they force the oil to pass through the filters. If the filters become plugged or oil to thick that in can not pass through the filters, the valves open allowing some oil to by-bass to prevent oil starvation problem else where. That is where the name by-pass relief valve came from. Rod.

Mel, yes the spring are installed at the bottom of the filters, sort of difficult to see in the pic.

Its a wonder the cans didn't split with the reliefs having the top outlet passage blocked
