had trouble with the vac getting fuel. i thought there was rust in the tank. Took out sediment bowl assembly and cleaned it out. when I got back to the tractor this ball of fuzz was hanging out the gas tank.

I've run into stuff like that many times over the years on tractors. I've found leaves nuts and washers twigs etc. in tank all of which can/will cause odd problems

Besides the crud I have a brand new tang off a gas cap I ordered from Steiner. Put it on, gave it one twist and twang went the tang. I am going to coat the tank so I will try to get that and everything else out of it when I do that

On something with an easy to pull tank, like a VAC, it's worth it to take it off, clean it good and reinstall.

Odd thing I found in our 730 gas was it sat in the orchard with the loader on for picking apples. A friend of my wife was picking apples and her boys unscrewed the gas cap and dropped in several small jelly crab apples. They would float for a while and settle over the outlet.

I found oat chaff and bee wings (from shelled corn) in a DC gas tank some years back. There was enough in it to cause problems over several years. I was the first one to take the tank off and clean it out. Never had a problem after that.

Glad I posted this. It is great to hear what is in gas tanks besides gas. I got mine off, got that tang from the gas cap out and some more odds and
ends. Waiting for my coating kit. Nice thing about that VAC tank, it could be replaced with amost any type of home made tank (even plastic I guess)
if it was no longer usable. Not like the SC tank or the tank on my Allis CA

Speaking of: Here are the pictures of my too tractors. I am a sucker for Orange I guess. I was really a sucker for the CA. It looked so nice and if those two tractors were new, it would out perform the VAC. But they are not new, and the VAC is in much better shape internally.

I have a 8N Ford that I feel the same about. Even though I have no purpose for it I'm still going to keep it. It might be ugly, but mechanically it runs smooth and quiet. There isn't even any noise coming from the transmission or final drive as it is driven. The steering is nice and smooth with hardly any play in it. I think at one time it was taken care of, then left out in the weather after that.

Having said that. Since I have to haul my gas from town and use the tractor so little. Maybe I should have bought one of those portable fuel tanks for use with outboard motors. Set it in, hook it up and go.
