vac seat assembly

Has anyone ever tried to take the slop out of a vac seat assembly with the big floor spring? After 66 years, the three pins that make up the assembly are all worn out of round. The seat tips and flops a lot even with the big spring pretty tight. Was thinking of removing the pins, sizing them up one size and drilling out the holes slightly bigger. Always interested to hear what others have done. Or if they did it and it didn't seem to help.

I thought I had more pictures of this but I guess not.

Here is what we did to rebuild our VAC seat assembly. All the pins are now fully grease-able and most of the slop is gone.

Took out the old pins and replaced with new stock and tubing that were welded into place to the corresponding pieces. This allows for the seat to still be set in the rear position (which is nice when raking hay). The same thing was done to the lower pin which helps hold the seat to the deck of the tractor.

Hope this helps!

Thought I would post a picture of it after it had been cleaned up and painted (with the new seat).
Kenbob not sure where you are located but you are more than welcome to make a trip and inspect mine more closely if you would like.

That is probably comfortable seat. Much like what I grew up sitting in on an Oliver 70. Might consider that. How much do you need for it. It would be a bunch to ship I guess. NW Iowa is about as far north as I get from Smithville Mo.

II am near Kansas City. You took it a step farther than I had thought. Having them greasable should keep them from ever wearing out.

Is that the same style of seat that is originally on an early 530? The previous owner put on an aftermarket seat, which I don't like. I would really like an original seat on my 530.

L. Fure, I have an extra 311 seat assembly with pan seat if you are interested. It is rusty and needs new bushings and rubber springs though. Where are you located? You could come pick it up and get a tour.

I'm located in the southwest corner of Wisconsin. Just type Leslie, Wisconsin in google maps. That's where I live. Where are you located?

As a side note about these seats. Last year I went to Ixonia, Wisconsin for a Tractor show they put on there. I ran into a gentleman that had a 611B there. The tractor had an original seat on it that is the same as what's on a 311. He had removed the rubber torsion springs, and used two trampoline springs to give the seat spring suspension. I sat in the seat and it worked really well. I wonder if this gentleman is a member of this forum? I'd like to have another look at his tractor seat.

L. Fure I am located in central Iowa. Melbourne is the town closest. Have not heard anything about using trampoline springs but would be interested in seeing a picture.

You're around 3.5 hours from me. I'd have to make the trip during a weekend. I'm not sure of what's going on this weekend, I'll have to check with her in the morning. I'll send a personal message to you when I learn more.

I think I'd be able to figure out how to attach the trampoline springs to the seat suspension. I'm glad I kept a bunch of springs when I threw the trampoline in the trash.

I don't anything, I usually swap "stuff" I'm checking, just for the heck of it, with a couple of buddies that go that way this time of year. There's always someone from here going to Branson in the winter, where arke you in relation to that. If interested, my mail is open.......
